Question
How do I change the admin password in my G34/G36 gateway?
Answer
The admin password for the G34/G36 is created when accessing the Web Manager or configuring the SURFboard® Central App for the first time.  This document describes how to change the admin password in the G34/G36 Web Manager. 

CAUTION: When setting up the SURFboard® Central app with the G34/G36, it is required to register an ARRIS account with an email address.  The email address and password to sign into the G34/G36 Web Manager are located in the app.  It is not recommended to change the admin password in the Web Manager when the app is set up.

NOTE: If the Web Manager login is unsuccessful, a factory reset on the G34/G36 is required to reset the admin password.  Performing a Factory Reset will erase any configuration changes that have been made and will require the gateway to be reconfigured.  For assistance with Factory Reset, refer to article # 19121 - G34/G36: Factory Reset.     

Change the Admin Password
  1. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter http://192.168.0.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The HTTPS:// Redirect page will appear. 
     
  2. The SURFboard Web Manager is begin redirected to a more secure connection, click the Proceed button to continue.  The Login page will appear.

  3. A security or private risk alert may appear on the web browser advising users to proceed with caution when accessing the Web Manager.  There is no risk in proceeding to the Web Manager.  For instructions to bypass the alert screen, refer to article # 18181 - Alert Message for Web Manager Access.

    NOTE: The Home Network Wizard will appear if this is the first time accessing the Web Manager.  For assistance with the wizard, refer to article 19077 - G34/G36: Web Manager First Time Login. 
     
  4. The Username field has admin populated, enter the custom password in the Password field. 

    NOTE: If the Login page prompts for the email address and password, retrieve the email address and password in the app to sign in.  For detailed instructions in the app, refer to article # 19069 - SURFboard Central: Web Manager Access.

     
  5. Click the Login button. The Gateway > Summary page will appear.

  6. On the left-hand menu, click the User Account link.  The User Account > Account Management page will appear. 
     
  7. Enter the current custom password in the Current Password field.  
     
  8. Enter a new custom password in the New Password field and re-enter the new custom password in the Re-Enter New Password field. 

    Password Requirements:
    • Minimum of 8 characters
    • At least one uppercase alpha character
    • At least one number (0-9)
    • At least one special character (~ ! @ # $ % ^ * (  ) - _ = + [ ] { } | ; : , . / ?)
  9. Enter the four-digit CAPTCHA code in the Type CAPTCHA Here field.
     
  10. Click the Save Settings button.  The Gateway > login page will appear.

  11. The Username field has admin populated, enter the custom password in the Password field.
     
  12. Click the Login button to access the G34/G36 Web Manager.  The Gateway > Summary page will appear.
