Question
How do I use the two Ethernet ports on the back panel of my S33/S34 cable modem?
Answer
The S33/S34 DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem is equipped with one 2.5-Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000/2500) port and one 1-Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000) port on the back panel.  Ethernet port 2.5 GE transmits data up to 2.5 Gigabit per second and Ethernet port 1GE transmits data up to 1 Gigabit per second.  For a typical setup, connect one device (computer or Wi-Fi router) to an Ethernet port on the back of the S33/S34 cable modem for Internet access.

Connect Multiple Client Devices
The S33/S34 is a cable modem and allows one client device for Internet access.  To provide Internet access to multiple client devices in the home network, add a Wi-Fi router to connect to the S33/S34 cable modem or replace the S33/S34 with a Wi-Fi cable modem like an SBG8300, G34, or G36.

Add Advanced Features
The S33/S34 is a cable modem and does not include advanced features such as Wi-Fi, parental controls, port forwarding, and router functions.  For advanced features, add a Wi-Fi router to connect to the S33/S34 cable modem or replace the S33/S34 with a Wi-Fi cable modem like an SBG8300, G34, or G36.

Utilize Both Ethernet Ports
The 2nd Ethernet port can be used for adding additional IP address for Internet service.  The 2nd IP address must be subscribed from the cable provider; not all cable providers offer additional IP address for residential service.
