Question
How do I use the two Ethernet ports on the back panel of my S33 cable modem?
Answer
The S33 DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem is equipped with one 2.5-Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000/2500) port and one 1-Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000) port on the back panel.  Ethernet port 2.5 GE transmit data up to 2.5 Gigabit per second and Ethernet port 1GE transmit data up to 1 Gigabit per second.  For a typical setup, connect one device (computer or Wi-Fi router) to an Ethernet port on the back of the S33 cable modem for Internet access.

Connect Multiple Client Devices
The S33 is a cable modem and allows one client device for Internet access.  To provide Internet access to multiple client devices in the home network, add a Wi-Fi router to connect to the S33 cable modem or replace the S33 with a Wi-Fi cable modem like a SBG8300.

Add Advanced Features
The S33 is a cable modem and does not include advanced features such as Wi-Fi, parental controls, port forwarding, and router functions.  For advanced features, add a Wi-Fi router to connect to the S33 cable modem or replace the S33 with a Wi-Fi cable modem like a SBG8300.

Utilize Both Ethernet Ports
The 2nd Ethernet port can be used for adding additional IP address for Internet service.  The 2nd IP address must be subscribed from the cable provider; not all cable providers offer additional IP address for residential service.
