The Wi-Fi Channel setting in the SBG Gateways can be changed to improve wireless connectivity from interference caused by other nearby wireless access point sharing the same wireless channel. Â
Â
The following describes the behavior of Wi-Fi Channel setting when set to Auto. Â The Auto option is only available for wireless network broadcasting on 2.4 GHz radio frequency. Â It is not available on 5 GHz radio frequency.
Â
When the gateway is operating and Wi-Fi is enabled, Auto channel will act as follows:
Â
-
As the gateway boots it will scan channels 1, 6, an 11 and selects the channel with the least interference.
-
If no clients are connected, the gateway re-scans channels 1, 6, an 11 every 15 minutes and selects the channel with the least interference. Â
Â
NOTE 1: The SBG gateway will not change channels if any Wi-Fi client's are actively connected to the SurfBoard Gateway.
Â
NOTE 2:Â In the Wi-Fi spectrum, there are multiple channels that overlap and degrade performance. Â Because channels 1, 6, and 11 do not overlap, they are used for better performance and stability.
