Question
How do I allow or restrict connections to the Wi-Fi network in my SBG10 gateway?
Answer
All Wi-Fi clients (such as smart phones, laptops, and tablets) are allowed to connect to the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks with the wireless password.  To increase security, configure the MAC Address Control feature to allow or restrict access to the Wi-Fi networks by adding the Wi-Fi client's MAC address to the MAC Address Filter List.  This document describes how to gather the Wi-Fi client's MAC address and to setup MAC Address Control.

There are 3 types of MAC Address filters:
  • None: Any device can try to connect. - All Wi-Fi clients are allowed on the Wi-Fi network.
  • Whitelist: devices must be listed below. - Wi-Fi clients added to the list are allowed.
  • Blacklist: device must NOT be listed below. - Wi-Fi clients added to the list are not allowed.

Requirement

The Wi-Fi client's MAC Address is require for MAC Address Control setup.  It can be found in the SBG10 Web Manager or from the client device's network information.

NOTE 1: It is recommended to setup the configuration with a device connected by Ethernet cable to the SBG10.  When using a Wi-Fi client to configure Whitelist, include the MAC address of the Wi-Fi client that is performing this setup to access the configuration page after applying the setup.

NOTE 2: Wi-Fi clients added to the whitelist are required to use the Wi-Fi password to connect to the secured Wi-Fi network.
