By default the SBG6580 functions as a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server, allowing it to assign IP’s to all devices connected to the Local Area Network (LAN) Network.  These addresses should be from the address pools that are reserved for local networks. In general, they are of the form "192.168.x.x" or "10.x.x.x".  The SBG6580 includes configurable options for the LAN Network, in which the LAN Network Address can be modified to suit the needs of the network.  This document describes how to change the LAN Network of the SBG6580.Â
Requirements:Â
- When changing the default LAN subnet, it must start from the range of 192.168.8.x or higher. Â
- The LAN IP address used must be a private IP address (within one of the following ranges):
Â
10.0.0.1 - 10.255.255.254Â
172.16.0.1 - 172.31.255.254Â
192.168.8.1 - 192.168.255.254
NOTE 1:Â IP addresses ending with 0 or 255 cannot be used (e.g. 192.168.8.0, 192.168.8.255). 192.168.100.x, also cannot be used and is reserved. Â Â
Â
NOTE 2: By default the LAN IP Address is 192.168.0.1 with the range of 2 - 253 for IP Addresses. Â Â
Â
NOTE 3: The following range of 192.168.1.x – 192.168.7.x is reserved for the Primary and Guest Networks. Â
Â
NOTE 4: The subnet mask of the SBG6580 (255.255.255.0) cannot be modified.
NOTE 5: Networks can be changed by changing the LAN IP address. Â

c. Â Â Starting Local Address - Leave at default 2, or enter the first IP address to be used in the DHCP range.
d. Â Â Max Number of Network Devices - Leave at default, or enter the number of IP addresses to be used in the DHCP range. Â For example, if this option is set to 100, and the Starting Local Address is set as 192.168.8.100, then the DHCP range will be from 192.168.8.100 - 192.168.8.199.
e. Â Â Lease time - Leave at default, or enter the amount of seconds that a device will keep an IP address, if that device has received an IP address automatically from the SBG6580.
f. Â Click the Apply button.
NOTE: If the LAN IP address is modified to be in a different subnet (e.g. 192.168.8.1), the SBG6580 will automatically change the DHCP range to use addresses in that subnet.
