Answer | By default, the SBG6700-AC operates as a gateway, and provides Internet access for multiple devices (up to 245 devices), connecting to the SBG6700-AC gateway. When operating as a gateway, the SBG6700-AC serves as a modem and a router and keeps the devices in the Local Area Network (LAN) hidden. In certain situations, it may be desired to disable the router function of the SBG6700-AC and have it operate as a modem only. This can be accomplished by configuring the SBG6700-AC for Bridge Mode. When Bridge Mode is enabled, the router function is turned off and the device directly connected to the SBG6700-AC will receive the Public IP address from the Cable Provider. This document describes how to enable and disable Bridge Mode.
NOTE:Â Although the SBG6700-AC does not route traffic when Bridge Mode is enabled, it can still act as a firewall if the firewall settings in the SBG6700-AC are enabled.
This is an ideal setup when:
- Adding a firewall, router, or another NAT device to manage the Local Area Network
- Hosting services or applications that can benefit from being directly accessible from the Internet
To Enable Bridge Mode
- Launch a Firefox or Safari browser.  Enter http://192.168.0.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key. Â
NOTE: A browser message on Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Opera, may appear when accessing the Web Manager. The message includes 192.168.01 uses an unsupported protocol and ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH. The Web Manager uses an earlier version of the TLS protocol and does not match the version allowed by the web browser.  Safari browsers on Apple PC and mobile devices are not impacted.  The workaround to access the Web Manager with a PC is to use the Firefox browser and set the TLS version to 1. For workaround instructions refer to article # 19435 - 192.168.0.1 uses an unsupported protocol.  - A security or private risk alert may appear on the web browser advising users to proceed with caution when accessing the Web Manager. There is no risk in proceeding to the Web Manager. For instructions to bypass the alert screen, refer to article # 18181 - Alert Message for Web Manager Access.
 - On the Login page, enter admin or a customized username in the Username field.
 - Enter password or a customized password in the Password field.
NOTE: On later versions of the SBG6700-AC, the Wi-Fi Security Key is used as the default admin password printed on the bottom white label. For assistance with Web Manager Access, refer to article # 18754 – SBG6700-AC: Web Manager Access.  - Click the Login button. The Home page will appear.
 - Move the mouse cursor over the Basic tab and select the Setup sub-link. The Basic - Setup page will appear.Â
 - On the Basic - Setup page:
a.  Gateway Mode - Click on the drop-down, and select Bridged. b.  Click the Apply button. The SBG6700-AC will restart.  - Click the Reload link to get back to the login page.
Â
The SBG6700-AC has now been configured with NAPT mode disabled. Make sure that the devices that are to receive a public IP address are directly connected to the SBG6700-AC's Ethernet ports. These devices will also need to be configured to obtain an IP address automatically.
To configure a Windows or Macintosh device to obtain an IP address automatically, please refer to the Answer link below. For all other devices, please contact the manufacturer.
