The SBG6900-AC includes configuration options for the wireless LAN (WLAN).  WPA (WiFi Protected Access) - PSK (Pre Shared Key) provides the best data protection and access control. The Primary Network is enabled and uses WPA2-PSK encryption by default.Â
The SBG6900-ACÂ Â supports 2.4GHz and 5.0 GHz Wi-Fi networks simultaneously. Â Each frequency has its own SSID (Service Set Identification), which is the name given to the wireless network of the SBG6900-AC. Â The 2.4 GHz network supports 802.11 b/g/n wireless clients, while the 5.0 GHz network supports 802.11n wireless clients only. Â 802.11n devices will generally perform better in the 5GHz range.
This document describes how to configure the SBG6900-AC to use WPA-PSK encryption.
NOTE: Older wireless client cards may not support WPA or WPA2 encryption methods. If a wireless card is not compatible with WPA or WPA2, either the gateway will need to be configured to use WEP encryption, or the wireless card will need to be replaced with a newer card that is compatible with WPA or WPA2 encryption.
Â
To Configure WPA-PSK
Â
- Launch a Firefox or Safari browser.  Enter http://192.168.0.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key. Â
NOTE: A browser message on Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Opera, may appear when accessing the Web Manager.  The message includes 192.168.01 uses an unsupported protocol and ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH.  The Web Manager uses an earlier version of the TLS protocol and does not match the version allowed by the web browser.  Safari browsers on Apple PC and mobile devices are not impacted.  The workaround to access the Web Manager with a PC is to use the Firefox browser and set the TLS version to 1.  For workaround instructions refer to article # 19435 - 192.168.0.1 uses an unsupported protocol.
 - A security or private risk alert may appear on the web browser advising users to proceed with caution when accessing the Web Manager.  There is no risk in proceeding to the Web Manager.  For instructions to bypass the alert screen, refer to article # 18181 - Alert Message for Web Manager Access.
 - On the Login page, enter admin or a customized username in the Username field.
 - Enter password or a customized password in the Password field.
NOTE: On later versions of the SBG6900-AC, the Wi-Fi Security Key is used as the default admin password printed on the bottom white label. For assistance with Web Manager Access, refer to article # 18753 – SBG6900-AC: Web Manager Access.
 - Click the Login button. The Home page will appear.
 - On the Home page, click on Manage Wi-Fi Network. The Wireless - Primary Network Settings page will appear.
 - On the Wireless - Primary Network Settings page, Wireless Network - Leave at default, which is Enabled.
- Network Name (SSID)Â - Enter the desired network name of choice, or leave it at the current setting.
- Network Name (SSID) Broadcast - Leave at default, which is Enabled.
- Wireless Security - Click the drop-down menu, and select WPA2-PSK + WPA-PSK.
NOTE: Select WPA-PSK for backward compatibility, WPA2-PSK for maximum security, or WPA2-PSK + WPA-PSK for maximum interoperability. In the example below, WPA2-PSK + WPA-PSK is selected.
 - Encryption - Select the option AES or TKIP+AES.
NOTE: Select AES for maximum security, or TKIP+AES for maximum interoperability.  In the example below, TKIP+AES is selected.
 - Passphrase - Enter the desired WPA key (wireless password) to use. The WPA key must be 8 - 63 characters.
- Click the Apply button.
NOTE:Â A reboot of the unit is not required for changes to take effect.
The SBG6900-AC is now configured to allow wireless client connections using WPA-PSK encryption.Â
To make a connection, the wireless client must have WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK encryption enabled and have the same WPA encryption key as the SBG6900-AC Gateway. For assistance with the wireless client:
