Question
How do I enable or disable bridge mode on the SBG7400AC2 gateway?
Answer

By default, the SBG7400AC2 operates as a gateway, and provides Internet access for multiple devices (up to 253 devices), connecting to the SBG7400AC2.  The SBG7400AC2 serves as a modem and a router and keeps the devices in the Local Area Network (LAN) hidden.  In certain situations, it may be desired to disable the router function of the SBG7400AC2, and have it operate as a modem only.  This can be accomplished by configuring the SBG7400AC2 for Bridge Mode.  When Bridge Mode is enabled, the router function is turned off and the device directly connected to the SBG7400AC2 will receive the Public IP address from the Cable Provider.  This document contains the following sections:

Enabling Bridge Mode

  1. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter http://192.168.0.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The Login page will appear.

    NOTE: A security or private risk alert may appear on the web browser advising users to proceed with caution when accessing the Web Manager. There is no risk in proceeding to the Web Manager. For instructions to by-pass the alert screen, refer to article # 18181 - Alert Message for Web Manager Access.

     
  2. On the Login page, enter admin in the User Name field.
     
  3. Enter password or a customized password in the Password field.

    NOTE: When using the default password to login, it may be required to set a unique password to proceed to the Web Manager.  For assistance with Web Manager Access, refer to article # 18345 – SBG7400AC2: Web Manager Access.

     
  4. Click the Apply button.  The System Basic Setup page will appear.

  5. On the System Basic Setup page, click the LAN Setup link on the top menu.  The LAN Settings page will appear.

  6. On the LAN Settings page, click the NAT Mode drop-down menu and select Bridged.  
     

  7. Click the Apply button.  The system pop-up window will appear.

  8. Click the OK button on the system pop-up window.

  9. The SBG7400AC2 has now been configured for bridge mode.  Make sure that the device is directly connected to the SBG7400AC2 's Ethernet ports and is able to receive a public IP address.



Disabling Bridge Mode

  1. Connect a device via Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port of the SBG7400AC2.

  2. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter http://192.168.100.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The Status page will appear.

    NOTE: A security or private risk alert may appear on the web browser advising users to proceed with caution when accessing the Web Manager.  There is no risk in proceeding to the Web Manager. For instructions to by-pass the alert screen, refer to article # 18181 - Alert Message for Web Manager Access.

     
  3. On the Status page, click the Wireless link on the top menu.  The Login page will appear.

  4. On the Login page, enter admin in the User Name field.

  5. Enter password or a customized password in the Password field.

  6. Click the Apply button.  The System Basic Setup page will appear.

  8. On the LAN Settings page, click the NAT Mode drop-down menu and select RoutedWithNAT.  

  9. Click the Apply button.  The system pop-up window will appear.
