Question
How do I change the default admin password in my SBG7580-AC?
Answer
The default admin login credential to log into the Web Manager for the first time is admin (username) and password (password).  It is required to change the default admin password after login.  The customized admin password can be changed in the Web Manager.   This document describes how to change the customized admin password. 

CAUTION: When setting up the SURFboard® Central app with the SBG7580-AC, it is required to register an ARRIS account with an email address.  The admin (username) and auto generated password to sign into the SBG7580-AC Web Manager are located in the app.  It is not recommended to change the admin password in the Web Manager when the app is set up.

NOTE: If the Web Manager login is unsuccessful, a factory reset on the SBG7580-AC is required to reset the admin password.  Performing a Factory Reset will erase any configuration changes that have been made and will require the gateway to be reconfigured.  For assistance with Factory Reset, refer to article # 16948 SBG7580-AC: Factory Reset.​


Change the Default Password
  1. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter http://192.168.0.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The Login page will appear.

    NOTE: A security or private risk alert may appear on the web browser advising users to proceed with caution when accessing the Web Manager.  There is no risk in proceeding to the Web Manager. For instructions to by-pass the alert screen, refer to article # 18181 - Alert Message for Web Manager Access.
     
  2. On the Login page, enter admin in the User Name field.
     
  3. Enter password or a customized password in the Password field.

    NOTE: When using the default password to login, it may be required to set a unique password to proceed to the Web Manager.  For assistance with Web Manager Access, refer to article # 18248 – SBG7580-AC: Web Manager Access.
     
  4. Click the Apply button.  The Alert!! window will appear.

  5. The Alerts!! window includes information about the Parental Control via the Secure Home Internet Service mobile app available on the Google Play Store (Android) and App Store (iOS).
    • Check the Do not show this window again box and click the Close button to stop the alert window from appearing during the next login.
    • Click the Close button to bypass the alert window.  The alert window will appear during the next login.

  6. On the System Basic Setup page, click the Login Settings link on the left-hand menu.  The Login Settings page will appear.
     
  7. Enter the current customized admin password in the Old Password field.
     
  8. Enter a new customized admin password in the New Password field and re-enter the new customized password in the Repeat New Password field.   

    Password Requirements:
    • Minimum of 8 characters
    • At least one uppercase alpha character
    • At least 1 number
    • One of ~ ! @ # $ % ^ * (  ) - _ = + [ ] { } | ; : , . / ?
  9. Click the Apply button.  A restart is not required, the new password will immediately go into effect.
