Question
How do I setup my SBG7580-AC to use other DNS?
Answer
Domain Name Server (DNS) is a database that contains domain host names (e.g http://www.arris.com) which are linked to a specific IP address.  When accessing a website the computer uses DNS to retrieve the website's specific IP address.  Without DNS the computer could only access the specific IP address directly if known.  This document describes how to setup custom DNS addresses in the SBG7580-AC

CAUTION: By default, the SBG7580-AC obtains DNS addresses automatically from the service provider.  Internet connection maybe lost if the DNS addresses inputted in the SBG7580-AC are not legitimate.

The following are examples of scenarios when DNS settings are customized:
  • Users may prefer to use public DNS addresses to improve web browsing experience.
  • Advanced users setup local DNS server in a home network to hide DNS requests.
