How do I change the admin password in my SBG8300 gateway?
The admin password for the SBG8300 is created when accessing the Web Manager or configuring the ARRIS SURFboard® Manager App for the first time.  This document describes how to change the admin password in the SBG8300 Web Manager. 

CAUTION: When setting up the ARRIS SURFboard® Manager app with the SBG8300, it is required to register an ARRIS account with an email address and password to sign into the SBG8300 Web Manager or the app.  The password must be changed in the SURFboard® App instead of the Web Manager. 

NOTE: If the Web Manager login is unsuccessful, factory reset on the SBG8300 is required to reset the admin password.  Performing a Factory Reset will erase any configuration changes that have been made and will require the gateway to be reconfigured.  For assistance with Factory Reset, refer to article

Change the Admin Password
  1. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The https:// Redirect page will appear.   
  2. The SURFboard Web Manager is begin redirected to a more secure connection, click the Proceed button to continue.  The Login page will appear.

  3. A security or private risk alert may appear on the web browser advising users to proceed with caution when accessing the Web Manager.  There is no risk in proceeding to the Web Manager.  For instructions to by-pass the alert screen, refer to article # 18181 - Alert Message for Web Manager Access.

    NOTE: The Home Network Wizard will appear if this is the first time accessing the Web Manager.  For assistance with the wizard, refer to article 17969 - SBG8300: Web Manager First Time Login
  4. Enter admin in the Username field and enter the custom password in the Password field. 

    NOTE: If the Login page prompts for the email address and password, it is required to update the admin password in the ARRIS SURFboard® Manager app.  For assistance with updating the admin password refer to articles: 
  5. Click the Login button. The Gateway > Summary page will appear.

  6. On the left hand-menu, click the User Account link.  The User Account > Account Management page will appear. 
  7. Enter the current custom password in the Current Password field.  
  8. Enter a new custom password in the New Password field and re-enter the new custom password in the Re-Enter New Password field. 

    Password Requirements:
    • Minimum of 8 characters
    • At least one uppercase alpha character
    • At least one number (0-9)
    • At least one special character (~ ! @ # $ % ^ * (  ) - _ = + [ ] { } | ; : , . / ?)
  9. Enter the four-digit CAPTCHA code in the Type CAPTCHA Here field.
  10. Click the Save Settings button.  The Gateway > login page will appear.

  11. Enter admin in the Username field and the custom password in the Password field.
  12. Click the Login button to access the SBG8300 Web Manager.
