SBG8300: Restrict Wi-Fi Clients

• Allow-All (Default mode) - All Wi-Fi clients are allowed to connect to the Wi-Fi network.
• Allow - Add up to 16 Wi-Fi clients to a list to allow connection to the Wi-Fi network.
• Deny - Add up to 16 Wi-Fi clients to a list to deny access to the Wi-Fi network.

Requirement

• It is recommended to setup the configuration with a device connected by Ethernet cable to the SBG8300.
• Wi-Fi clients added for Allow are required to use the Wi-Fi password to connect to the secured Wi-Fi network.

• Deny Specific Client to the Wi-Fi Network
• Allow Specific Client to Connect to the Wi-Fi Network
• Disable MAC Filtering

Deny Specific Client to the Wi-Fi Network
Add Wi-Fi clients to the list to deny connection to the Wi-Fi network.  New Wi-Fi clients that are not on the deny list will be able to connect to the Wi-Fi network.  It is recommended to configure Deny access on both the Wireless 2.4 GHz and Wireless 5 GHz networks to deny connections for the Wi-Fi clients added to the list. 

1. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter http://192.168.0.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The https:// Redirect page will appear.   
    
2. The SURFboard Web Manager is begin redirected to a more secure connection, click the Proceed button to continue.  The Gateway > Login page will appear.
   
   
    
3. A security or private risk alert may appear on the web browser advising users to proceed with caution when accessing the Web Manager.  There is no risk in proceeding to the Web Manager.  For instructions to by-pass the alert screen, refer to article # 18181 - Alert Message for Web Manager Access.
   
   NOTE: The Home Network Wizard will appear if this is the first time accessing the Web Manager.  For assistance with the wizard, refer to article # 17969 - SBG8300: Web Manager First Time Login.
    
4. Enter admin in the Username field and enter the custom password in the Password field.
   
   NOTE: If the Login page prompts for email address and password.  Log into the Web Manager with the email and password used when setting up the SURFboard Manager app with the SBG8300.
    
5. Click the Login button.  The Gateway > Summary page will appear.
   
   
    
6. On the left-hand menu, click the Connection link then click the Wi-Fi link.
    
7. Click the MAC Filtering sub-menu link.  The Gateway > Connection > Wi-Fi > MAC Filtering page will appear.
    
8. Under the MAC Filtering Settings section, click the SSID drop-down menu to select the SSID to configure (The 2.4 GHz SSID was used in this example).
   
   NOTE:  The 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz SSIDs are configured independently.  If it is desired to specify access to both networks, the steps below will need to be repeated for each SSID.
    
9. Click the MAC Filtering Mode drop-down menu and select the Deny option.
    
10. To add a recently connected device, locate the device under Auto-Learned Wi-Fi Devices and click the ADD button. The device will now appear in the Wi-Fi Control List. 
     
11. To add a device that is not currently connected, under Manually-Added Wi-Fi Devices, enter a unique device name in the Device Name field and enter the device's MAC address in the MAC Address field.  Click the ADD button.  The device will now appear in the Wi-Fi Control List. 
    
    NOTE 1: To locate the MAC address of a Wi-Fi device that is not currently connected, check the device documentation for instructions.
    
    NOTE 2: Repeat steps 10 - 11 to add additional MAC Addresses. 
     
12. Click the Save Filter Settings button.  The Gateway > Connection > Wi-Fi > MAC Filtering page will refresh.
    
    NOTE 1: Wi-Fi clients not on the list will briefly disconnect and reconnect and Wi-Fi clients on the list will disconnect.
    
    NOTE 2: New Wi-Fi clients that are not on the list will be able to connect to the Wi-Fi network.
    
    NOTE 3: It is recommended to also configure the 5 GHz SSID for Deny.  Repeat steps 8 - 12 to configure the 5 GHz SSID.
    
    

Allow Specific Client to Connect to the Wi-Fi Network
Add Wi-Fi clients to the list to allow connection to the Wi-Fi network.  New Wi-Fi clients cannot connect to the Wi-Fi network until the MAC address is added to the allow list.  It is recommended to configure Allow access on both the Wireless 2.4 GHz and Wireless 5 GHz network to allow connections for the Wi-Fi clients added to the list.  Include the Wi-Fi client's MAC Address that is performing this setup to the list to allow access to the Wi-Fi network.  This allows the Wi-Fi client back to the configuration page if needed.

12. Click the Save Filter Settings button.  The Gateway > Connection > Wi-Fi > MAC Filtering page will refresh.
    
    NOTE 1: Wi-Fi clients on the list will briefly disconnect and reconnect and Wi-Fi clients not on the list will disconnect.
    
    NOTE 2: New Wi-Fi clients cannot connect to the Wi-Fi network until the MAC address is added to the allow list.
