Domain Name Server (DNS) is a database that contains domain host names (e.g http://www.arris.com) which are linked to a specific IP address. Â When accessing a website the computer uses DNS to retrieve the website's specific IP address. Â Without DNS the computer could only access the specific IP address directly if known. Â This document describes how to setup custom DNS addresses in the SBR-AC1200P.Â
CAUTION: By default, the SBR-AC1200P obtains the DNS addresses are obtained automatically from the service provider. Â Internet connection maybe lost if the DNS addresses inputted in the SBR-AC1200P are not legitimate.
The following are examples of scenarios when DNS settings are customized:
Users may prefer to use public DNS addresses to improve web browsing experience.
Advanced users setup local DNS server in a home network to hide DNS requests.
