The SBX-AC1200P default Wi-Fi credentials, wireless name and security password, are listed on a sticker on the back of the device.  The wireless name, also known as SSID (Service Set Identification), is a uniquely identified wireless network.  The wireless key, also known as the wireless security key, encryption key or passphrase, is a password which allows wireless clients, such as smart phones and laptops, to join the secured wireless network.  The SBX-AC1200P broadcast the default wireless network simultaneously over the 2.4 and 5 GHz radio bands with the identical Wi-Fi credentials.  This allows the SBX-AC1200P to automatically direct Wi-Fi clients to the best radio band by way of Band Steering, a feature that is enabled by default.  This document describes changing the default wireless name and password using the Quick Start Wizard in the SBX-AC1200P.
The SBX-AC1200P operates as a wireless extender out of the box.  When the SBX-AC1200P is installed in a home network, it broadcasts a wireless network different from the home wireless router resulting in two different wireless networks.  It is ideal to change the Wi-Fi name and password in the SBX-AC1200P to match the home router's wireless network.  If the SBX-AC1200P is paired with SURFboard RipCurrent wireless router, the SBX-AC1200P will automatically broadcast the wireless network of the SURFboard RipCurrent wireless router. Â
If the SBX-AC1200P is operating as a wireless router, it is recommended for users to change the default Wi-Fi credentials to something more familiar. Â
CAUTION: When changing the wireless name and password, all wireless devices on the network will lose their wireless connection.  The wireless devices will need to be reconnected to the new wireless network name with the new wireless password.
