Question
How do I change the Wi-Fi channel?
Answer
NOTE: This article applies to the SURFboard Wi-Fi Cable Modems (G18, G20, G34, G36, G54, SBG10, SBG6950AC2, SBG7400AC2, SBG7580-AC, SBG7600AC2, SBG8300).

In some cases, wireless interference may occur when nearby wireless networks are broadcast on the same channel as the Gateway.  Changing the Wi-Fi channel in the Gateway may reduce wireless interference.  The Wi-Fi network is broadcasted on the 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz bands simultaneously.  By default. the Wi-Fi channel is set to Auto.  The auto channel on the Wi-Fi network automatically selects the best or least congested Wi-Fi channel after restarting the gateway.  Gateways with Dynamic Channel Selection (DCS) feature change to the least congested Wi-Fi channel during operation and does not require a restart.

Before selecting the Wi-Fi network, check the Wi-Fi client that is experiencing interference to identify the Wi-Fi network being used by the device.  The Wi-Fi client’s Internet connection will be interrupted when changing the Wi-Fi channel.  This document describes changing the Wi-Fi channel using the SURFboard Central app.
