Question
How do I configure a static WAN IP on the gateway?
Answer
NOTE: This article applies to the SURFboard Gateways G34 and G36.

Depending on the type of Internet subscription, it may require entering static IP addresses in the gateway for Internet access.  By default, the gateway is ready for IP addresses to be assigned automatically by the service provider for Internet connection.  It is required to first setup the gateway with the SURFboard Central app, then configure the static IP addresses in the gateway.  This document contains the following sections: The SURFboard Central app is available on both App Store and Google Play store at no charge.

Requirements
  • Active Internet Service with existing SURFboard Gateway.
  • Obtain Static IP addresses from the Internet service provider:
    • Static WAN IP Address (also known as Public IP Address)
    • Subnet Mask
    • Default Gateway IP Address
    • DNS Addresses (Primary and Secondary)
  • Wi-Fi enabled on iPhone or Android device (mobile or tablet) with Internet access.

First Time Gateway Installation
  1. Connect the coaxial cable to a cable wall outlet (if not connected) and the Cable connector on the rear of the gateway.  Hand-tighten the connectors to avoid damaging them.

  2. Connect the included Wall Power Supply to the Power port on the rear of the gateway and then plug it into an electrical wall outlet that is not controlled by a wall switch.
