Question
How do I change the default admin password in my SVG2482AC Gateway?
Answer
When attempting to access the SVG2482AC Web Manager, the SVG2482AC prompts for an admin username and password.  By default, the username is admin, and the password is password.  If the SVG2482AC is using the default password, it will prompt to change it.  For network security purposes, ARRIS recommends changing the default admin password.  This document describes how to change the default admin password.

Admin Login Consideration
  • Passwords are case sensitive and cannot contain special characters.
  • Backup changes made to the SVG2482AC with the default admin login.  Please refer to Article # 17202 - SVG2482AC: Backup and Restore Configuration.
  • Keep a record of the new admin password.  If it is lost, a reset to the factory default settings is required to access the SVG2482AC's web manager using the default admin login credentials.  Please refer to Article # 17190 - SVG2482AC: Factory Reset.

To Change the Default Admin Password

NOTE: If the gateway cannot be accessed using the default credentials, and the password is unknown, then the gateway will only be accessible by doing a factory reset.  Keep in mind that a factory reset will erase any custom settings, and may cause the Internet to be inaccessible.  For instructions on how to do a factory reset, please refer to Answer # 17190 - SVG2482AC: Factory Reset.
  1. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter http://10.0.0.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The Gateway >Login page will appear.

  2. Enter admin in the Username field.

  3. Enter password in the Password field then click the Login button.  The Gateway > At a Glance page will appear.

    NOTE:
A prompt to change the password appears when the SVG2482AC is using the default password.  To change the password click the OK button to get directed to the Troubleshooting > Change Password page.  Proceed to step 5 to change the admin password.
