Answer | The SVG2482AC Firewall has various settings related to blocking or exclusively allowing different types of data through the gateway from the Internet to the home network. Even if specific web content is allowed on the computer level, it can be blocked on the gateway level using the firewall options.  By default, the Firewall is set to Minimum Security (Low); it is recommended to be enabled.  This document describes how to set the SVG2482AC firewall security levels, and how to set a custom security level.
Set Firewall Security Level
- Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter http://10.0.0.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The Login page will appear.
 - On the Login page, enter admin in the Username field.
 - Enter password in the Password field then click the Login button. The Gateway > At a Glance page will appear.Â
NOTE: A prompt to change the password appears when the SVG2482AC is using the default password. To change the password click the OK button or click the Cancel button to bypass it.Â
 - On the left-hand menu, click the Firewall link, then click the IPv4 submenu. The Gateway > Firewall > IPv4 page will appear.
 - On the Gateway > Firewall > IPv4 page under Firewall Security Level, select the level of protection (Low, Medium or High).  The following are descriptions for each option:Â
- Maximum Security (High)Â - Block all applications, including voice applications (such as Gtalk, Skype) and P2P applications, but allow internet, email, VPN, DNS, and iTunes services.
- ​Typical Security (Medium) - Block P2P applications and pings to the Gateway, but allow all other traffic.
- Minimum Security (Low)Â - Block no applications or traffic. Â This is the default setting.
- Custom Security - block specific services.
- Click the Save Settings button

Set Custom Security Level
- Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter http://10.0.0.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The Login page will appear.
 - On the Login page, enter admin in the Username field.
 - Enter password in the Password field then click the Login button. The Gateway > At a Glance page will appear.Â

 - On the left-hand menu, click the Firewall link, then click the IPv4 submenu. The Gateway > Firewall > IPv4 page will appear.
 - To set the Custom Security option, click on the Custom Security radio button. The page will expand to show the custom options.
 - Select the desired traffic to block, or select Disable entire firewall to disable the firewall in the SVG2482AC.
NOTE: Selecting the Disable entire firewall option will not disable any Parental Control options in the SVG2482AC.
 - Click the Save Settings button.
NOTEÂ 1: A reboot of the unit is not required for changes to take effect.
NOTE 2: If it is desired to block an outbound port that is not listed in the Firewall, this can be accomplished with Parental Controls.
