Question
How do I setup remote access in my SVG2482AC Gateway?
Answer
By default, access to the SVG2482AC configuration menu is only accessible from client devices within the home network.  However, the SVG2482AC can be configured to also allow remote access from anywhere on the Internet or from specific location.  The remote access support non-secured and secured connections over the Internet.  This document contains the following sections:
Enable Remote Access
  1. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter http://10.0.0.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The Login page will appear.
     
  2. On the Login page, enter admin in the Username field.
     
  3. Enter password in the Password field then click the Login button.  The Gateway > At a Glance page will appear.

    NOTE: A prompt to change the password appears when the SVG2482AC is using the default password.  To change the password click the OK button or click the Cancel button to bypass it.

  4. On the left-hand menu, click the Advanced link.  The Advanced > Port Forwarding page will appear.
     
  5. Click the Remote Management sub-menu link.  The Advanced > Remote Management page will appear.

  6. Click the Enable button next to HTTP for non-secured connection or HTTPS for secured connection option.  A pop-up window will appear.

    NOTE 1:  The Remote Management Address is the SVG2482AC's Internet IP address that is used for remote access.

    NOTE 2: In this example, HTTP is enabled for remote management.

     
  7. Click the OK button in the pop-up window to continue.  The Advanced > Remote Management page will return.

  8. Leave the HTTP field at default port 8080 or HTTPS field at default port 8181. 

    NOTE: The default port number for non-secured connection is 8080 and for secured connection is 8181.  The port number can be changed to a different number in the range of 1025 - 65535.  The port number is used for remote access.  

     
  9. Select an option in the Remote Access Allowed From section:
    • ​To allow remote access from a specific location, select the Single Computer bullet-point.  Then enter the Internet IP address of the remote location into IPv4 Address or IPv6 Address field.

      NOTE: To determine the Internet IP address to be allowed for remote access, access one of the following site from the remote location where the SVG2482AC would like remote access from: 
    • To allow remote access from a range of specific locations, select the Range of IP's bullet-point.  Then enter the start range of the Internet IP addresses of the remote locations into the Start IPv4 Address or Start IPv6 Address field.  Enter the end range of the Internet IP addresses of the remote locations into the End IPv4 Address or End IPv6 Address field. 

      NOTE: The Range of IP's option is suitable for in a lab environment.

       
    • To allow remote access from any location, leave the Any Computer button-point at default.  
       
      NOTE: The Any Computer option is the most suitable, as it allows remote access from various remote locations.
  10. ​Click the Save button.  Changes take effect immediately. 
     
  11. Copy the address for the Remote Management Address (IPv4) or the Remote Management Address (IPv6) for remote access to the SVG2482AC.  The following examples are remote access addresses when the Remote Management Address (IPv4) is 11.22.11.22.   
    • ​​When HTTP is enabled, the remote access address is http://11.22.11.22:8080
    • When HTTPS is enabled, the remote access address is https://11.22.11.22:8181

      Right click on the image to save it to your computer.


Establish Remote Access
  1. Locate the Remote Management Address (IPv4) or Remote Management Address (IPv6) address that was previously copied. 
     
  2. From a remote location, launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter the remote access address into the address box and press the Enter key. The following examples are remote access addresses when the Remote Management Address (IPv4) is 11.22.11.22.   
    • ​​When HTTP is enabled, the remote access address is http://11.22.11.22:8080
    • When HTTPS is enabled, the remote access address is https://11.22.11.22:8181
  3. On the Login page, enter admin in the Username field then enter password in the Password field.
     
  4. Click the Login button.  The Home page will appear.

Disable Remote Access
  1. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter http://10.0.0.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The Login page will appear.
     
  2. On the Login page, enter admin in the Username field.
     
  3. Enter password in the Password field then click the Login button.  The Gateway > At a Glance page will appear.

    NOTE: A prompt to change the password appears when the SVG2482AC is using the default password.  To change the password click the OK button or click the Cancel button to bypass it.

  4. On the left-hand menu, click the Advanced link.  The Advanced > Port Forwarding page will appear.    
     
  5. Click the Remote Management sub-menu link.  The Advanced > Remote Management page will appear.
     
  6. Click the Disable button for the HTTP and HTTPS options.
     
  7. Click the Save button.  Changes take effect immediately.
