Question

What tools can I use to test connectivity in my TG862?

Answer

The Diagnostics page in the TG862 includes various tools that are used for troubleshooting IP connectivity issues.  This document describes how to utilize the Network Diagnostic Tool.

Test Connectivity - A test used to check connectivity from the TG862 to the Internet.  Using the feature, the TG862 sends a small packet of data to the Internet and waits for a reply from the Internet.  If there are replies, this confirms that the TG862 and that Internet are able to communicate with each other.

Check for IP Address - A test used to determine if an IP address is accessible. If the IP address is accessible it will return with an OK status.

NOTE: Some devices are configured to block incoming ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol) packets.  As a result, the test connectivity and check for IP address tests may fail, although the device itself is up and running.

How to access the Network Diagnostic Tool

  1. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari. Enter http://10.0.0.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The Login page appears.

NOTE: By default the LAN IP address is 10.0.0.1.  If the default address has been changed, enter the custom address in the address box.

  2. On the Login page:
    a.   Enter admin in the Username field.
    b.   Enter password in the Password field.
    c.   Click the Login button.  The Gateway > At a Glance page appears.
