TG862G/CT & TG862R: Port Forwarding Setup

Port Forwarding allows the option to run a publicly accessible server on the LAN by specifying the mapping of TCP / UDP ports to a local device.  This enables incoming requests on specific port numbers to reach devices such as Web Servers, Mail Servers, and Digital Video Recorders (DVR).  This document describes how to create a port forwarding entry.

NOTE 1: It is recommended to manually configure the TCP / IP settings on the server that will be remotely accessible.  If this is done, then it is mandatory to configure the following settings:

• IP address
• Subnet mask
• Default gateway
• At least one DNS address

If the following settings are configured without the default gateway, remote access to the server will not be available, as it will only be accessible from the local network.

NOTE 2: When manually configuring the TCP / IP settings on a device, make sure that the DHCP pool in the TG862 doesn't include the IP address of the server. 

Creating Port Forwarding Entry

1. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter http://10.0.0.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The Login page appears.
   
   NOTE: By default the LAN IP address is 10.0.0.1.  If the default address has been changed, enter the custom address in the address box.
    
2. On the Login page:
   a.   Enter admin in the Username field.
   b.   Enter password in the Password field.
   c.   Click the Login button.  The Gateway > At a Glance page appears.
   
   
   
    
3. On the left-hand menu, click on Advanced.  The Advanced > Port Forwarding page appears. 
4. On the Advanced > Port Forwarding page:
   a.   Click the Enabled button.
   b.   Click the Add Service button.  The Advanced > Port Forwarding > Add Service page appears.
   
   
   
    
5. On the Advanced > Port Forwarding > Add Service page:
   a.   Common Services - Click the drop-down menu, and select the desired setting (AIM, FTP, or Other).
   
         NOTE: In most cases, Other should be used.
   
   b.   Other Service - Enter the desired name for this service.
   
         NOTE:  This option is only available if Other has been selected for Common Services.
   
   c.   Service Type - Click the drop-down menu, and select TCP/UDP.
   d.   Server IP Address - Enter the IP address of the device.
   e.   Starting Port - Enter the desired port number.
   f.    Ending Port - Enter the desired port number again.
   
         NOTE: If it is desired to forward a range of ports, enter the first number of the range for Starting Port, and the last number of the range for Ending Port.
    
6. Click the Save button.
   
    NOTE: A reboot of the unit is not required for changes to take effect.
