TG862G/NA: Parental Controls Setup

How do I setup Parental Controls in my TG862 Gateway?

The TG862 provides the ability to restrict access to specific Internet websites and websites via keywords.  These websites can be blocked by specified URLs and keywords for certain times of the day, certain days of the week, or for all times.  Access permissions can be assigned to the network and can be configured to be bypassed for specific devices (e.g. computer, gaming console, tablet).  This can be accomplished by using the Parental Controls feature.  By default, Parental Controls is disabled, which allows access to Internet web sites to all of the devices at all times.  This document describes how to restrict one device from accessing websites that contain a specified keyword and URL at a specific time of day.  In addition to removing a Parental Controls filter.

Accessing Parental Controls

1. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter http://192.168.0.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The Login page appears.
   
   NOTE: By default the LAN IP address is 192.168.0.1.  If the default address has been changed, enter the custom address in the address box.
    
2. On the Login page:
   a.   Enter admin in the Username field.
   b.   Enter password in the Password field. 
   c.   Click the Login button.  The System Basic Setup page appears.
   
    
    
3. On the top-menu, click the Firewall tab.  The Firewall Settings page appears.
4. On the left-hand menu, click on Parental Controls.  The Parental Controls page appears.
    
   
    

Keyword Filtering

1. On the Keyword Filtering section, click the Add button.  The AddKeywordFilter window appears.
2. On the AddKeywordFilter window:
   a.   Keyword - Enter the desired keyword to be blocked.
   b.   Day - Check the ALL WEEK checkbox for the keyword filter to apply to all seven days of the week or uncheck and select the desired days to filter. 
   c.   Time - Check the ALL DAY checkbox for the keyword filter to apply all the time of the day or uncheck and select the desired time to filter.
   d.   Click the AddKeywordFilter button.  The Parental Controls page appears. 
   e.   If it is not desired to enable Web Site Filtering, proceed to the Enable Parental Controls section.
    
   NOTE 1:  In this example we are blocking any websites that contains the word poker all the time during Monday - Friday.

   NOTE 2: Repeat steps 1 - 2  for any additional restriction rules.

    

   

Web Site Filtering

1. On the Web Site Filtering section, click the Add button.  The AddWebSiteFilter window appears.
2. On the AddWebSiteFilter window:
   a.   Website - Enter the desired website to be blocked (e.g. blockme.com).
   b.   Day - Check the ALL WEEK checkbox for the website filter to apply to all seven days of the week or uncheck and select the desired days to filter. 
   c.   Time - Check the ALL DAY checkbox for the wesite filter to apply all the time of the day or uncheck and select the desired time to filter.
   d.   Click the AddWebSiteFilter button.  The Parental Controls page appears. 
    
   NOTE 1:  In this example we are blocking facebook.com Monday - Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.

   NOTE 2:  Repeat steps 1 -2 for any additional restrictions rules.

    

   

To Enable Parental Controls

1. On the Parental Controls page:
   a.   Trusted Mac Addresses - (Optional) Enter the MAC address of the desired computer.  This computer will not be affected by the Parental Control settings. 
   b.   Enable Parental Controls - Check the box. 
   c.    Click the Apply button. 
    

   

Removing an Filter Entry

1. On the Parental Controls page, check the desired filters to be removed and click the Delete button.
