Many connectivity problems can be traced to a simple physical connection problem with cables between the computer and the device. It is also possible that the drivers for the device didn't load or loaded incorrectly. To investigate this you will need to check the device properties via the DEVICE MANAGER screen. The following steps provide a step-by-step process to verify connections.

The first step in checking the connection, is to verify the physical connection with your cable modem or wireless device.

1. Go to Control Panel > System Select Device Manager

2. Once you select Device Manager you will see the screen(s) below.

 

3. Note in the image above the (!) symbol. This indicates there is a problem with the connection between the device and the computer. Right click at the affected device and select properties and the screen in the right portion of the image above will appear

4. You may need to check the physical (cable) connection between computer and device. It may also be necessary to reload drivers In the image above you can see there is a message pertaining to a driver problem.
