Question
How do I change the Wi-Fi channel in the W6U extender?
Answer
Changing the Wi-Fi channel in the W6U may reduce wireless interference or allow Wi-Fi 6E capable clients to see the Wi-Fi network (SSID).  The Wi-Fi Channel is set to Auto by default and automatically selects the best or least congested Wi-Fi channel after restarting the W6U.

The W6U broadcast the Wi-Fi over the 6GHz band and only the Wi-Fi 6E
capable clients can see the SSID and connect to the network.  This document contains the following sections:

Power Cycle the W6U
  1. Unplug the power to the W6U for 10 seconds and plug the power back in.  Wi-Fi devices connected to the W6U will disconnect.

  2. The W6U LED will turn back to blue. Reconnect the Wi-Fi 6E devices to the Wi-Fi network if they do not reconnect.

Changing the Wi-Fi Channel in the Web Manager
The following steps must be performed on a laptop or mobile device that is connected to the home network.
  1. Launch a web browser and enter https://w6u.local/ into the address box, and press the Enter key.

  2. A security or private risk alert may appear on the web browser advising users to proceed with caution when accessing the Web Manager.  There is no risk in proceeding to the Web Manager.  For instructions to by-pass the alert screen, refer to article # 18181 - Alert Message for Web Manager Access.

NOTE: The Setup Administration page will appear if this is the first time accessing the Web Manager.  For assistance, refer to article # 19243 - W6U: Web Manager First Time Login.

  3. Enter the custom username in the Username field and the custom password into the Password field.

  4. Click the Login button.  The Network Status page will appear.

  5. Click the Wireless Settings link in the left-hand menu.

  6. Click the Channel drop-down menu to select channel 37(PSC), 53(PSC), 69(PSC), 85(PSC), 133(PSC), and or 149(PSC).

NOTE: It is recommended to leave the Channel setting at Auto and restart the W6U.  The best Wi-Fi channel will be selected upon restart.  Keep in mind that the connected Wi-Fi clients temporarily lose Internet connection when the W6U is restarting.

  7. Leave the default setting of HT160 on the Channel Width field to increase the amount of data that the Wi-Fi network can carry.

  8. Click the Submit button to apply the new settings.  Changing the Wi-Fi channel may cause temporary interruptions to the Wi-Fi devices connected to the W6U.
