How do I establish a wireless connection using Windows 7?
Answer
This document shows how to configure Windows 7 to establish a wireless connection with a wireless gateway.
NOTE 1: This document assumes that the wireless gateway and the wireless client are functioning properly, and that the wireless gateway is configured correctly for a wireless connection.
NOTE 2: The encryption key (WEP or WPA-PSK) may be required to complete the wireless setup, and it is located on the wireless gateway. Please refer to the wireless gateway's user manual.
To Setup Wireless Connection
Click the Start (Windows logo) button on the bottom left side of the screen.
Click on Control Panel.
Â
Click on Network and Internet.
Â
Click on Network and Sharing Center.
Â
Select Connect to a network
Â
Select the desired wireless network from the provided list.
Â
Check the Connect Automatically checkbox if it is desired to automatically connect to the selected network in the future.
Click the Connect button.
Â
If prompted to do so, type in the encryption key (password) for the selected network. Check the Hide Characters checkbox if it is desired to hide the key.
NOTE 1: The encryption key (WEP or WPA-PSK) can be located on the wireless gateway. Please refer to the wireless gateway's user manual.
NOTE 2: When entering the encryption key, do not enter any spaces. Â
Click the OK button.
Â
If this is the first time connecting to the selected network, a window will display, asking for the location of the computer. Read the descriptions, and select the most suitable option.
Â
To Verify Wireless Connection
Click the Start (Windows logo) button on the bottom left side of the screen.
Click on the Control Panel.
Â
Click on Network and Internet.
Â
Click the Network and Sharing Center link.
Â
Click the Wireless Network Connection link underneath the View your active networks section. The Wireless Connection Status window appears.
NOTE: The wireless network connection name may vary. Wireless Network Connection 3 (joewireless) is used as an example in this document.
Â
In the Wireless Connection Status window, verify the IPv4 Connectivity: status. The following status are:
Internet: wireless connection is successful and has Internet access.
No Internet access: wireless connection is successful and the gateway is not connected to the Internet.
No Network access: wireless connection. Â
NOTE: The IPv6 Connectivity will display No Network access because IPv6 is not supported on the Motorola wireless gateways.
