mAX Routers: Amazon Alexa Skills Setup

Question
How do I link my mAX Router with Amazon Alexa device?
Answer
NOTE: This article applies to the mAX W21, W121, W122 Express, W30, W130, W31, W133, W61, and the W161 Routers.

Pair the mAX router with any Amazon Alexa device to help manage and configure the Home Network using voice commands.  The SURFboard Central app and the Amazon Alexa mobile app or desktop platform must be installed to link the skill set.  This document contains the following sections: Requirements:
  • Amazon Alexa device and Amazon Alexa account.
  • Amazon Alexa mobile app is downloaded onto the mobile device or use the Web browser platform.

Enable Alexa in the SBC App
  1. Tap the Menu bar link on the top-left screen.

  2. Tap the Amazon Features box.

  3. Swipe the Enable/Disable Amazon Frustration Free Setup Feature slider to the right to enable the Amazon Frustration Free Setup Feature.

  4. On the Amazon Wi-Fi simple setup pop-up box, tap the OK button.

  5. On the Amazon Feature Updated Success pop-up box, tap the OK button.

  6. Tap the My Network icon at the bottom of the screen, and the Amazon Features message will appear.  Tap the dismiss link to remove the message.

Link SURFboard Skills in the Alexa App
  1. Tap the Menu bar link on the top-left screen.

  2. Tap the Amazon Features box.

  3. Tap the Copy icon to copy the password or tap the hidden eye icon to show the password.

    NOTE: The password is used to link the Amazon Alexa account with the mAX Router.

  4. Tap the OK button.

  5. Open the Amazon Alexa app.
     
  6. Tap the Menu bar on the bottom-right corner of the screen, and then tap the Skills & Games link.

    Right click on the image to save it to your computer.

     
  7. Tap the Search icon on the top-right corner. 

    Right click on the image to save it to your computer.

     
  8. Type SURFboard in the Keyword or skill name field (Case sensitivity is not important).  The surfboard word will auto-populate, tap on the word surfboard.  

    NOTE: Other keywords that can be used to search for the skill: ARRIS and Wi-Fi Management.

  9. Tap the SURFboard® Smart Home Wi-Fi Management result to select the skill.

  10. Tap the Enable To Use button to link the account.

  11. Enter the ARRIS account email address used when setting up the SURFboard Central app with the mAX Router in the Email field.
     
  12. Paste the password from the SURFboard Central app Amazon Features screen into the Password field.
     
  13. Click the Sign in button to link the account.

  14. The skill is successfully linked as highlighted in the green box, then tap the Next button.

  15. Alexa is looking for devices to connect.

  16. Alexa found devices that are added to the account.  Tap the Next button.

  17. Tap the Main - Guest Wifi link to set up, and then tap the Set Up Device button.

  18. The Main - Guest Wifi is set up, tap the Continue button.

  19. Tap the Main - Network Control link to set up, and then tap the Set up Device button.

  20. The Main - Network Control is set up, tap the Continue button.

  21. All the devices are set up, tap the Done button.

SURFboard Alexa Commands
  • "Alexa, enable the guest Wi-Fi"
  • "Alexa, disable the guest Wi-Fi"
  • "Alexa, turn on the guest Wi-Fi"
  • "Alexa, turn off the guest Wi-Fi"
