Question

How do I reset my mAX Router to factory default settings?

Answer

NOTE: This article applies to the mAX WC4S, WC4T, W21, W121, W122 Express, W30, W130, W31, W133, W61, and the W161 Routers.

In some cases, the mAX Router may need to be reset to its factory default state and clear all previous settings. Each mAX Router is identical and can automatically configure itself to be the router or the satellite. Make sure to factory reset the mAX Router, if they were set up previously. The Factory Reset can be performed by pressing the reset button on the device. This document describes how to reset the mAX Router to the factory default settings by pressing the reset button.

CAUTION: This process will clear all configurations and should be used as the last resort option. Performing a Factory Reset will erase any configuration changes that have been made and will require the SURFboard Central app to perform onboarding setup of the router.

Factory Reset With the Reset Button
The reset will disassociate the unit from the SURFboard Central app and erase all settings. The SURFboard Central app will need to perform onboarding setup of the router and be reconfigured.

Open the SURFboard Central app and tap the Menu Bar link on the top-left screen.
Tap the Remove Device button.
Tap on the mAX router to remove it from the SURFboard Central app, then tap the Next button.
On the pop-up box, tap Yes to remove the last installed device.
The Select Your Device Below screen will appear.
Carefully insert the tip of a pen or the end of an unwound paperclip into the Reset button located on the bottom of the device.
Press and hold down the Reset button for 10 seconds and then release it.
After the mAX Router has finished booting up, tap the box for SURFboard Mesh Wi-Fi Triband.
Tap the Next button to select the mAX router and perform onboarding again.
