Question
How do I enable DFS on the SURFboard Central App?
Answer
Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) allows the mAX router to share the 5GHz Wi-Fi frequency bands with radar systems without causing interference.  Radar systems are used mainly at airports, weather stations, and other government locations.  When DFS is enabled in the mAX router it will monitor the 5GHz Wi-Fi frequency bands.  If the radar system frequencies are detected on the current 5 GHz Wi-Fi frequency band the mAX router will switch to another channel automatically to prevent interference.  Client devices may disconnect and reconnect when switching DFS channels and finding non-DFS channels to connect to.

When DFS is enabled Wi-Fi performance may improve as there is less interference on the new 5GHz Wi-Fi frequency bands.  Some client devices may not be able to reconnect to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi frequency band, it is recommended to disable DFS.
To use DFS channels the client devices must support DFS.  This document describes how to enable DFS.
