Question

How do I link my mAX Router with an Amazon Alexa device?

Answer

The mAX router can be paired with any Amazon Echo device to help manage and configure the Home Network using voice commands. The SURFboard Central app and the Amazon Alexa mobile app or desktop platform must be installed to link the skill set. This document contains the following sections:

Requirements:

Active Internet Service on the mAX Router.
iPhone or Android mobile device with Wi-Fi enabled.
The SURFboard Central app downloaded onto a mobile device.
Amazon Alexa device and Amazon Alexa account.
Amazon Alexa mobile app downloaded onto the mobile device or Web browser platform.

Create Account with the SURFboard Central App

Download the SURFboard Central app from the App Store or Google Play store at no charge. Launch the SURFboard Central app to perform onboarding setup of the mAX Router. For assistance on completing the onboarding setup for the SURFboard Central app, refer to the following articles:

View Alexa Skills Instructions

Tap the Menu bar link on the top-left screen.
Tap the Get Alexa Skills link.
Tap the Get Alexa Skills link.

NOTE: The password is used to link the Amazon Alexa account with the mAX Router. Tap the Copy button to copy the password or tap the hidden eye icon to show the password.
The Get Alexa Skills instructions are displayed.

Linking the SURFboard Skills with Amazon Alexa Device

Open the Amazon Alexa app on the mobile device.
Tap the Menu bar on the top left corner of the screen.
From the menu list, tap on Skills & Games.
Tap the search icon on the top-right corner.
Type SURFboard in the Keyword or skill name field (Case sensitivity is not important). The surfboard word will auto-populate, tap on the word surfboard.

NOTE: Other keywords that can be used to search for the skill: ARRIS and Wi-Fi Management.
Tap on the SURFboard® Home Wi-Fi Management result to select the skill.
Tap the Enable to Use button to link the account.
Enter the ARRIS account email address used when setting up the SURFboard Central app with the mAX Dash in the Email field.
Paste the password from the SURFboard Central app Get Alexa Skills screen into the Password field.
Click the Sign in button to link the account.
The skill is successfully linked as highlighted in the green box, then tap the Done link on the top-left.
