Why are location services needed for the SURFboard Central app?

Answer

When onboarding the SURFboard product with the SURFboard Central app, permissions must be granted to enable location services. The Location services are used during installation, connecting to the Wi-Fi network, and checking the state of the Wi-Fi connection (Remote access vs. local Wi-Fi connection). ARRIS does not collect and share location information with 3rd parties.

The Location services can be set to allow while using the app in the mobile device settings. This document contains the following sections:

Enable Location Services in the Android Mobile Device
Enable Location Services in the Apple Mobile Device

Enable Location Services Only While Using the App for Android

Swipe down on the status bar to open the notification drawer and tap the Setting icon.
Tap on Apps.
Scroll down and tap on SURFboard Central.
Tap on Permissions.
Tap on Location.
Tap on Allow only while using the app.
